The new look Disney’s magical classic Aladdin is finally out and I must say that that they have evoked a whole other kind of nostalgia.
The photos, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, showcased some of what fans can expect in the live-action adaptation, including Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and last but not the least Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.
Filling in the rest of the cast are Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan and Numan Acar as Hakim. Nasim Pedrad and Billy Magnussen are taking on new roles, Dalia, Jasmine’s handmaiden and confidante, and Prince Anders, a suitor vying for Jasmine’s hand in marriage, respectively.
The picture comes months after a teaser trailer dropped, giving fans their first glimpse of the fictional city of Agrabah, before delving into the Cave of Wonders where Aladdin discovers the magic lamp.
Entertainment Weekly shared the cover of their latest issue and caption it as, “We can show you the world of Disney’s live-action Aladdin! Get a shining, shimmering, splendid first look at the reimagined classic in our magical First Look issue.”
A teaser image reveals that Will Smith’s Genie is a far cry from the blue immortal from the 1994 Disney classic, with the only resemblance being the black goatee. Smith is in human form with an almost bald head, embellished clothing and ample jewellery.
The Genie grants Aladdin three wishes before the street urchin sets him free from the lamp in the Disney tale. From what we have seen so far, it’s absolutely gorgeous and I am sure the film too will be fun and entertaining.
The shooting got over in January 2018, but the cast was called back to London in August to reshoot scenes after studio execs watched an early cut.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 24, 2019.
