Thackeray Trailer: Nawazuddin Siddiqui Set To Belt Out A Rock Solid Performance As Balasaheb Thackeray

It’s edgy, it’s controversial and it’s rock solid, well, I am talking about the trailer of the film Thackeray that has just hit the net.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is set to play the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Keshav Thackeray also known as Balasaheb Thackeray in his biopic.

The almost-three-minute trailer is a powerful portrayal of Bal Thackeray’s rise to power from an illustrator to one of the most influential political leaders of Maharashtra.

The trailer carefully introduces the character of Bal Thackeray, who founded his own political party, Shiv Sena, in the year 1966 to fight for the interests of the Marathis not only in the political sphere but also in the economic landscape of Bombay.

We also get to see fleeting glims of Amrita Rao who is essaying the role of Meena Tai Thackeray, while of Balasaheb Thackeray.

Nawazuddin had stated earlier that this is one of the most challenging roles that he has ever done.

“More than myself, I appreciate Shiv Sena that they approached me for the role. That’s a huge thing. I am just an actor. I will anyway sit down with my director to come up with the best outcome but it is a huge deal that these people thought of me in the first place.” stated Nawazuddin, who was last seen in Nandita Das’s Manto.

Thackeray has been written by journalist and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut and has been directed by Abhijit Panse. The film has been co-produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Carnival Motion Pictures.

Apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing the titular role, the film also stars Amrita Rao, Abdul Quadir Amin, Anushka Jadhav, Laxman Singh Rajput and Niranjan Javir.

All in all, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is totally convincing as Balasaheb Thackeray and this one has loads of meat in it. I am so looking forward to this one.

Thackeray will release in Hindi and Marathi alongside Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika on January 25, 2019. The film will also be dubbed in English.
