Sujata Kumar, the actress who played Sridevi’s elder sister in English Vinglish passed away after battling cancer. She breathed her last on Saturday, August 21, 2018 night.
The sad news was announced by her sister, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. Sharing the heart-breaking news, she wrote, “Our beloved Sujata Kumar has passed away and moved on to a better place leaving us with an unimaginable void. She left us an hour ago at 11.26 pm on the 19th of August 2018. Life can never be the same again.”
On August 18, Suchitra informed her followers that her sister was in ICU and fighting for her life. She said, “It feels like somebody’s plunged a hard cold knife into my heart and ripped the ground from under my feet as I sit outside ICU and pray for my big sis my mother my best friend my darling Sujata Kumar as she battles for her life inside. Please, join me & my family in r prayers for her.”
Film producer and Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor expressed grief on Sujata Kumar’s death.
Barring films, Sujata has been a part of numerous commercials and television projects. One cannot forget her performances in shows like Hotel Kingston (Star One) and Bombay Talking (Zee Cafe). She also appeared in Anil Kapoor’s 24 (Colors TV) as Meghna Singhania.
Sujata was also a part of Karan Johar’s Gori Tere Pyar Mein and Aanand L. Rai’s Raanjhanaa.
For people who knew her, she was full of life, always upbeat and ready to help anyone and everyone in need.
Sujata Kumar led a life filled with trials and tribulations in the form of an abusive childhood and a failed marriage, of which, she talked about at a TEDx event independently organized by a local community. Sujata openly spoke about delivering a stillborn baby to the overlapping of her divorce proceedings and chemotherapy.
