After filmmaker Leena Manimekalai accused Tamil director Susi Ganeshan of sexual misbehaviour with her, Siddharth stood up in support of her and tweeted about the issue.
In a shocking development, Siddharth claims to have received threats from director Susi Ganeshan for supporting the women filmmaker in the Me Too Movement. Taking to Twitter, Siddharth revealed about the threat his father received from Susi Ganeshan and posted a message.
“Susi Ganesan spoke to my aged father on the phone and threatened us with dire consequences if I continue to stand by Leena. So I just want everyone to know that now more than ever. I Stand with Leena Manimekalai. Stay strong and fight the good fight sister!” tweeted Siddharth which has sent shocking waves across the South film industry.
Earlier, Leena had alleged that Susi Ganeshan had misbehaved with her during a car journey couple of years ago. Leena had said that Susi Ganesan had offered to drop her at her house after an interview at a television studio in Chennai. However, the director had allegedly turned on the central lock in his car and forced her to go to his house. Recounting the harrowing incident, Leena said that Susi Ganesan had taken her phone, switched it off and thrown it away. It was only after she threatened to harm herself with her pocket knife that he relented.
She added that she did not have the courage to speak out about her experiences at the time. She was worried that her parents who were firmly against her working in the media industry would use this opportunity to force het to quit. I was worried that Susi Ganesan might spread rumours about her and endanger her position within the film industry. So she kept quiet. Sad!!
Now, Susi Ganeshan, in his defence, has stated that he has always respected women in the industry and has never misbehaved with anyone. Susi Ganeshan, on his Facebook page, also said that he has evidences to prove his innocence and is ready to appear in any court if a legal case is filed against him.
