She is an actor, she is a singer and she is a lady with a heart, well, I am talking about the ever so talented Ritika Sahni, who is a special educator and Founder of NGO Trinayani, which emphasises that it is important to change attitudes and mindset of the non-disabled people.
Ritika Sahni has always been a go-getter and has followed her heart. For her life is not about existence, but its all about doing what you feel good about.
She went ahead and founded Trinayani in the year 2006 and since then she has been relentlessly working towards creating awareness about disability and diversity issues and empowering disabled people by engaging them in meaningful initiatives.
According to Ritika, disability awareness is very important as it helps break stereotypes and overcome preconceptions regarding disabilities.
If this was not enough, she has even launched a music band Pehli Baarish, along with some disabled and non-disabled music maker friends.
Pehli Baarish performs once a month at unconventional venues like old age homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centres cancer patients in hospitals, shelter homes, and orphanages.
To provide dignified livelihood to persons with visual impairment, Ritika opened a spa, The Sparsh Foot Spa, in the year 2011. Besides running the spa, she has seen to it that they are also available on call for regular visits at Offices, Gyms, Restaurants, Cultural Events, Marathons, Social Parties and Regular Salons and Malls. Wow!! Now that’s what I call a super initiative.
Ritika has a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education from Ali Yavar Jung National Institute Of Speech And Hearing Disabilities and has taught at various institutions dealing with disability as a Special Educator, Communication therapists and Inclusive support teacher, a fact that very few people are aware off.
Because you are women, people will force their thinking on you, their boundaries on you. They will tell you how to dress, how to behave, who you can meet and where you can go. Don’t live in the shadows of people’s judgement. Make your own choices in the light of your own wisdom. This is exactly how I would like to sum up this SUPERGIRL.
Here’s wishing Ritika and her team at Trinayani all the very best. More power to you girl.
