Movie Review: Milan Talkies – This One Is A Filmy Torture

Set up against the old world charm of single-screen cinema, Milan Talkies is all about Anirudh (Ali Fazal) who lives in Allahabad and dreams of directing a blockbuster film some day.

Apart from working in a theatre, Anirudh also runs a gang that lets students cheat in exams. In walks Maithili (Shraddha Srinath), whose father hires Anirudh to help her clear her exams. From here on starts a love story, which is typical and is all over the place.

The film is boring and has been stuffed with back to back mundane scenes. Tigmanshu Dhulia has desperately tried to stuff the entire film with so-called commercial formula and has ended up making a product which is wishy-washy. What is funny, is the fact that each and every character in the film either has aspirations of being in showbiz or has an undying love for cinema. There are too many tracks in the film, and sadly, none of them given full justification.

From Milan Talkies to Bhoole Se Naam Lo Pyaar Ka to again Milan Talkies, from Imran Khan and Priyanka Chopra to Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar to finally Ali Fazal and Shraddha Srinath, Milan Talkies has been in the pipeline since 2012. How I wish this one should have been in the pipeline forever.

Anyways, the only good thing about Milan Talkies is its music by Akriti Kakkar, Rana Mazumder, and Dharma Vish.

All said and done, I am appalled by the people who have pumped in monies to produce a film like Milan Talkies because this one is neither a romantic tale nor is it a dramatic bonanza.

While Tigmanshu Dhulia, himself the boy from Allahabad could make his mark in Bollywood, his film, Milan Talkies will sink without much effort. Try not to go even near this one as you will end up losing sleep and having a severe headache for days.
