Year 2007 saw the release of Bheja Fry, a film that went on to become a classic. The makers followed it up with an upmarket version in 2011 titled Bheja Fry 2, which was a disaster, well, this is exactly the case with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi.
Anand L. Rai teamed up with Mudassar Aziz to produce Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016), which was simple, cute and had loads of funny moments. However, the team has messed it up with their second outing, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, which is a torturous ride.
The film is all about the original Happy (Diana Penty) and the new Happy (Sonakshi Sinha) who land in Shanghai at the same time. The original Happy (Diana Penty) has a history with a prominent Pakistani politician, Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol) and that’s the reason why a Chinese businessman Adnan Chow (Denzil Smith) wants to kidnap her to pressurize the Pakistan government for money. He abducts the other Happy (Sonakshi Sinha) instead.
The sequel, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, takes a cue from there, but actors seem much more confident as if they know what the future has in store for them. The bigger canvas and addition of new actors do not add any value to the film.
However, one needs to applaud both Jimmy Shergill and Piyush Mishra for giving the film some respectability.
The film is neither funny nor dramatic nor does it have moments that will make you cry. They are just scenes up together that refuse to end. I am sure just like Sagar Ballary, Mudassar Aziz too got carried away and made a film that is not even a patch to the original.
All in all, avoid watching Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi and want Happy Bhag Jayegi instead cause I am sure you will have a smile on your face seeing the previous one and not end up having a headache as I have right now.
