Sequel to the runaway hit Boyz (2017), Boyz 2 came in with loads of expectations, but sadly this one fell flat.
Boyz 2 is all about Dhungya (Parth Bhalerao), Dhairya (Pratik Lad) and Kabir (Sumant Shinde) who are now in junior college. Kabir, Dhungya, and Dhairya undertake a challenge to put their senior Naru down. But to win the challenge, they need to have SEX with there partners and make a video. For me, this is where the film goes totally wrong. The very idea, which forms the very basis of the film is very below the belt and cheap.
Kabir, Dhungya, and Dhairya are curious about SEX, especially Kabir who wants to lose his virginity and that’s when Dhungya and Dhairya take him to a brothel. Now such scenes are below the belt and cheap.
The issue is if you are making a film which is laced with SEX, then go all out and do whatever it takes, but with Boyz 2 the makers constantly kept vacillating with the idea and hence lept justifying themselves in practically every scene. Now if Dhungya and Dhairya took Kabir to a brothel, who was so desperate, he backs out and then we get into a monolog justifying the enter act. Not done guys!!
As one was dealing with this onscreen mess, Chitra (Sayli Patil) walks in, a new girl in the college, who Kabir is infatuated with. During their class trip to Ladakh, all he wants is to get physical with her so that he can win the bet. Now, this is not done.
Boyz 2 bears a striking resemblance to its first part, mainly in the way it is executed. The similar jokes and antics of the trio are predictable. Also, there are songs that crop up from all over the place. Even where this is no need, we have a song.
Guess both the director, Vishal Sakharam Devrukhkar and music director and presenter, Avadhoot Gupte got carried away as both the narrative and songs and too forced. Guess they are too confident post their previous hit Boyz.
Boyz 2 reloves around one word, SEX and that’s the huge issue in the film. Towards the end, one has tried to give a message but then the cause is lost. Most of the women characters are caricaturish and objectified.
Sequel to the runaway hit Boyz (2017), Boyz 2 came in with loads of expectations, but sadly this one fell flat as there is nothing but Sex in the one. All in all, I was hugely disappointed with Boyz 2. Yes, the film may get a huge initial, but then it will end there.
