From the time the trailer has hit the net, the buzz around Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy has been very encouraging. Everyone is talking about the film and are waiting eagerly for the release of this one.
Recently the cast of the film, including Ranveer, Alia and director Zoya Akhtar, recently headed to Berlin for the world premiere of the film at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival and boy, they managed to get the biggest cheers in the 20 years history of the Berlin Film Festival 2019.
In fact, Cameron Bailey, the artistic director at the Toronto International Film Festival, lauded team Gully Boy and tweeted saying that he has never seen such a response to a movie in the last 20 years at Berlin Flim Festival.
“Watched the Gully Boy world premiere tonight in a packed house with Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Zoya Akhtar present. Biggest cheers I have heard in 20 plus years at the Berlinale.” tweeted Cameron Bailey.
If this was not enough to make the makers of the film happy, Variety in its review of the film has given a huge thumbs up for this film. Jay Weissberg, writing in his review, mentioned that while the film could sound derivative, its high-wattage screen chemistry and inclusive social message coupled with slick production quality has made it a standout work
Gully Boy is about Murad (Ranveer), a rapper from the slums of Mumbai, who wants to rise above his socio-economic status to become a star. Despite being discouraged over and over again, he manages to take the underground rap scene by storm.
The film is inspired by the life of underground rappers Divine and Naezy. Produced by Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also features Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash and Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles.
Gully Boy is scheduled to open in theatres on February 14, 2019.
