Bruce Dern was hospitalized here and later released after he suffered a possible fractured hip.
A leading tabloid had reported that the incident took place at 03:45 pm on Friday, October 18, 2018. It posted a photo taken by a bystander of a shirtless Dern, 82, on the ground as he was being treated and said the incident occurred at Runyon Canyon, a popular and rugged hiking area in the Hollywood Hills.
Dern’s manager Alan Somers stated that the accident took place after he slipped on gravel while jogging, while his publicist Lee Wallman stated that Bruce jogs every day.
Bruce Dern had recently completed filming his role as George Spahn in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, wherein he was cast as a replacement for the late Burt Reynolds.
The film centers on a faded television actor and his stunt double who embark on a mission to make a name for themselves in Hollywood during Charles Manson’s Helter Skelter reign of terror in 1969 Los Angeles.
Dern plays rancher George Spahn in the film, a Pulp Fiction-esque tapestry of stories in and around Los Angeles in the summer of 1969 when Charles Manson and his followers massacred Sharon Tate and others. Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, and Al Pacino are also starring in the film.
The film will be released July 26, 2019, by Sony Pictures. David Heyman is producing with Shannon McIntosh and Tarantino.
Lee Wallman added that she expects that Bruce Dern will want to return to shooting the upcoming Showtime comedy series Black Monda next week. “Knowing Bruce, he’ll want to get back to work as soon as possible,” she added.
Bruce Dern, the father of actress Laura Dern, has credits dating back to Route 66 in 1960. He was nominated for the Academy Award for supporting actor for Coming Home in 1978 and for best actor for Nebraska in 2013. He also appeared in Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.
