The film PM Narendra Modi has finally hit a roadblock. After being greenlit for an April 11, 2019 release, the film has been stalled until the end of the Lok Sabha Elections on May 19, 2019.
However, the makers of PM Narendra Modi, have moved the Supreme Court after the Election Commission deferred the release of the film till the end of the Lok Sabha elections on May 19, 2019. The court has agreed to hear the case on Monday, April 15, 2019. On Wednesday, a day before the PM Narendra Modi biopic starring Vivek Oberoi in the lead role was scheduled to release on April 11, 2019, the Election Commission stalled its release.
It ordered that any biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography subserving the purposes of any political entity or any individual entity connected to it, which is intended to, or which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections, should not be displayed in electronic media.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking a stay on the release of PM Narendra Modi. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna said that it was up to the EC to take a call on whether or not the film violates the model code of conduct.
Recently, producer Sandip Ssingh told an entertainment website that the PM Narendra Modi biopic would not sway voters in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi.
"If that is the case, then why can't all the parties stop all the campaigning and just make films and influence the voters? It's very simple. It's a producer's job. I liked one story. When I liked the story of Aligarh, nobody questioned. When I liked the story of Mary Kom, nobody questioned. When I like Sarbjit's story, nobody questioned. So then why are they grilling on this film? Why are they scared? Why aren't they confident about the work they have done for the country and their respective states? They should worry about that, not about the film," stated Sandip.
Directed by Omung Kumar, PM Narendra Modi stars Vivek Oberoi, Manoj Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Boman Irani, Barkha Bisht, Zarina Wahab, Prashant Narayanan, and Akshat R. Saluja.
Produced by Sandip Ssingh, Suresh Oberoi, and Anand Pandit, the film will release in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
