The trailer of Malaal, a film that marks the debut of Javed Jaffrey's son Meezaan Jaffrey and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece Sharmin Segal, daughter of Bela Segal, has finally hit the net.
Set in the heart of Maharashtra, Malaal is an intense love story between Shiva Morey (Meezaan Jaffrey) and Astha Tripathi (Sharmin Segal). In all of this, we also get to meet a local politician, the role which is being essayed by Sameer Dharmadhikari.
Shiva is a Maharashtrian, who hates outsiders settling in Mumbai, while Astha, is a North Indian who comes to live in the same chawl as him. This is something that Shiva is not too happy about.
As in the trailer, love blossoms between Shiva and Astha and despite their initial love-hate relationship and different backgrounds, both fall in love and as they say, the rest is history.
Of the two, Meezaan is a star to watch out for. He is intense and will be someone who will make his mark. As far as Sharmin is concerned, well, she reminds me of Saiyami Kher.
All in all, Malaal is laced with loads of song and dance sequences, a Ganpati festival and dialogues that I am sure will resonate in the minds of moviegoers for a long time.
Directed by Mangesh Hadawale, who made his directorial debut in 2008 with Marathi film Tingya, which received immense commercial and critical acclaim. Dekh Indian Circus (2011), his second film was in Hindi and was awarded the National Film Award for Best Children's Film.
Besides Malaal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is also working on Inshallah, starring Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt. Inshallah brings the actor-director duo together after a gap of almost two decades after they delivered the blockbuster Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is 1999.
Malaal is being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali along with Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain and Krishan Kumar and is set to hit theatres on June 28, 2019.
