Amber Heard has been making some controversial headlines for quite some time now. First, it was for her divorce with Johnny Depp, then came in the news of a $50 million defamation case against her by her ex-husband, after she alleged that he physically abused her during their marriage and now, the stunner has once again hit the headlines where she has stated that it was hard for her to come out as bisexual to her parents as they could not process it.
Amber Heard has been quite open about being bisexual in the past, but during her panel at the South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival, she revealed how hard coming out was. Heard, 32, was part of the SXSW featured session Making Change On And Off the Screen.
"I'm from Austin, Texas. My dad is out of central casting Texan. He loves his guns and is a good Southern man. I was raised in a religious home. Naturally, being an outspoken, militant feminist, lesbian, atheist, vegetarian. I remember when I told them about my relationship, that I was in love with this woman." she said in a recording posted on the official SXSW website.
She even went on to state that she refused to admit the difficulties with her family were affecting her, and she didn't display any negativity, but over five years, she watched their behaviour change.
Amber Heard dated photographer Tasya van Ree for about four years beginning in 2008 and came out publicly two years later at GLAAD's 25th-anniversary event in 2010.
Post all this, when Ellen DeGeneres asked about her sexuality, she had stated that she had felt that she had a unique responsibility to speak her truth.
Once this particular episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show went on air, the initial reaction wasn't what she had expected. Amber even stated that she kept conversations about her sexuality very positive, and five years later, she and her girlfriend Tasya van Ree were actively a part of her family members lives.
Amber Heard was dating Von Ree from 2008 to 2012, before dating and moving in with actor Johnny Depp, who she met in 2011 while filming The Rum Diary. They were married in a private civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles on February 03, 2015.
Amber filed for divorce from Johnny Depp on May 23, 2016.
