It has tried to push the boundaries of commercial cinema, it has tried to have a progressive outlook, and it has tried to handle a sensitive issue of lesbian relationships, well, I am talking about the film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga that released today.

The film is all about Sweetie (Sonam Kapoor), a young girl from Moga in Punjab. In walks, Sahil Mirza (Rajkummar Rao) as a probable suitor, and things to get messy for Sweetie. As the story progresses, we get to know that Sweetie is not in love with Sahil, but is in love with Kuhu (Regina Cassandra). What happens then is what makes up for the rest of the film.

Written beautifully by Gazal Dhaliwal and Shelly Chopra Dhar, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga breaks a lot of norms. The father-daughter bond is beautifully penned out and both Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor have done full justice to what was given to them. The film has moments that I am sure will linger in your minds.

Talking about the actors, well this is for sure belongs to Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao. Both are effortless in their parts and are a treat to watch. Also, Madhumalti Kapoor as the overbearing, overprotective and over the top grandmother is a laugh riot.

Director Shelly Chopra Dhar has handled the film with loads of sensitivity and has not tried to be in your face. There are loads of subtle moments in the film that I am sure will melt your heart.

The only issue with this film is the fact that there is very little of Sweetie and Kullu, maybe about fifteen minutes, and for me, that was a huge downer.

All in all, with Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Shelly Chopra Dhar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Fox Star Studios have pushed the boundaries of commercial cinema and have given us an unusual love story. The film is not overdramatic but has loads of moments that I am sure you will enjoy.

Do catch this one and I am sure you will come out with a smile on your face.
