Written beautifully by Gazal Dhaliwal and Shelly Chopra Dhar, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga breaks a lot of norms. The father-daughter bond is beautifully penned out and both Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor have done full justice to what was given to them. The film has moments that I am sure will linger in your minds.
Talking about the actors, well this is for sure belongs to Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao. Both are effortless in their parts and are a treat to watch. Also, Madhumalti Kapoor as the overbearing, overprotective and over the top grandmother is a laugh riot.
Director Shelly Chopra Dhar has handled the film with loads of sensitivity and has not tried to be in your face. There are loads of subtle moments in the film that I am sure will melt your heart.
The only issue with this film is the fact that there is very little of Sweetie and Kullu, maybe about fifteen minutes, and for me, that was a huge downer.
All in all, with Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Shelly Chopra Dhar, debut director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Fox Star Studio push the boundaries of commercial cinema giving us an unusual love story. The film is not overdramatic but has loads of moments that I am sure you will enjoy.
