After winning the SAG Awards 2019, the Marvel film, Black Panther, is the hot favourite for the Oscars 2019. Of the 25 Best Cast winners at the SAG Awards, 11 went onto win the Best Picture Oscar.

Black Panther has also made history as the first superhero movie to have been awarded the statue for the Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture at 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Black Panther beat out A Star Is Born, BlacKKKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and Crazy Rich Asians. Chadwick Boseman accepted the honour on behalf of his cast, thanking the director and genius Ryan Coogler.

"We all know what it's like to be told there's not a screen for you to be featured on, there's not a stage for you to be featured on. We know what it's like to be the tail and not the head. We know what it's like to be beneath and not above and that is what we went to work with every day because we knew, not that we would be around during awards season and that it would make a billion dollars, but we knew we had something special that we wanted to give the world. We knew we could create a world that exemplified a world that we knew we wanted to see. We knew we had something that we wanted to give." stated Chadwick Boseman while accepting the honour.

Since its release, Black Panther has become a full-blown phenomenon, grossing over a billion dollars at the Box Office and giving the world its first major black superhero.

The film even broke numerous records after its release in February 2018, claiming the biggest opening weekend ever for a film not directed by a white man and the biggest global debut for a movie with a predominantly black cast.

The monumental win paves the way for Black Panther to make Oscar history at the awards show next month, where it's nominated for Best Picture.

The Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019.
