Bollywood was in for a rude shock after director Rajkumar Hirani was dragged to the limelight in the wake of the Me Too Movement. The allegations of sexual assault against him have shaken Bollywood.
While on one hand, Rajkumar Hirani has denied the allegations, Sharman Joshi, Boney Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi, and Dia Mirza have expressed their shock over the news.
While Dia Mirza called it deeply depressing, Sharman Joshi and Boney Kapoor have supported the director and Emraan Hashmi has stated that it's not right to Emraan Hashmi
Dia Mirza, a close friend of Hirani who's worked with him in Lage Raho Munnabhai and Sanju, reacted with stupefied confusion.
"I am deeply distressed by this news. As someone who has known and respects Raju Sir for 15 years, I can only hope that a due official enquiry is conducted. He is one of the most decent human beings I have ever worked with and I think it would be grossly unjust on my part to speak on this as I do not know the details," Dia Mirza said.
Sharman Joshi took on to Twitter and wrote, "Raju Sir is a man of immense integrity, character, honour, compassion and truthfulness, all the virtues one would imagine are non-existent in people today, someone I am absolutely inspired by and have learnt from and because of whom I believe I have gone onto being a better person. All I want to say, Sir is that this too shall pass. I can imagine how demeaning it might be to even stand up for yourself in a situation such as this."
"Rajkumar Hirani is too good a man to do something like this. I don't believe this allegation. He can never do something like this," stated Boney Kapoor.
Commenting on the same, Emraan Hashmi stated that it's just an allegation and till the time it is proved correct, he thinks it would not be right to comment on the matter. "I don't want to comment on this. It's just an allegation. Nothing has been proved as of yet. The director has already dismissed the allegations. Till the time something is not proven, I don't think it right to comment on this," stated Emraan Hashmi.
According to a HuffPost India article, a woman claimed that Hirani had sexually abused her on more than one occasion over a six-month period between March and September 2018. However, Rajkumar Hirani's lawyer denied all the allegations levelled against him.
