There has been a lot of anticipation since the time Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar have decided to team up for Chhapaak, and boy, today, Deepika has left everyone stunned with her first look of the acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.

Revealing the look of real-life acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, Deepika posted a picture on her Instagram account and the resemblance is uncanny!

"A character that will stay with me forever, Malti, Shoot begins today! Chhapaak. Releasing: 10th January 2020." Deepika Padukone captioned the first look poster.

Deepika's character will be called Malti and she looks absolutely unrecognisable in the picture. The picture is as powerful as it can get! Apart from the amazing prosthetics, it's the intensity in the actor's eyes that will win you over.

Chhapaak is about the indomitable human spirit. The celebrated actor, who is known for her choice of roles, will be seen as Malti. Here's presenting the first look of Deepika from the film.

Over the last six months, the actress and filmmaker have had various look tests, readings and have been busy with the casting. Deepika gave her nod to the film instantly when Meghna approached her with the subject. The shoot of the film begins today in New Delhi.

Deepika, 33, will essay the role of Malti (Laxmi Agrawal), who at the age of 15, was attacked allegedly by a spurned lover in 2005. Her attacker, a 32-year old man, was an acquaintance of her family. Laxmi is a well-known advocate of stricter punishments in acid attack cases and she helps acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop such attacks.

The film is being helmed by Meghna Gulzar and being co-produced by Deepika Padukone and Fox Star Studios.

Meghna's last film Raazi, which starred Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, was a huge Box Office. It also dominated the awards season this year, bagging the best film trophy at the recent Filmfare Awards 2019.

Coming back to Chhapaak, well, apart from Deepika Padukone the film also stars Vikrant Massey and is set to release on January 10, 2020.
