Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a veteran when it comes to walking the Cannes red carpet and this year is no exception. Aishwarya, 45, might have made a late entry this year, but after having a look at her, I must say it was worth the wait.
Aishwarya made her first red carpet appearance this year at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, today, May 20, 2019, dressed in the kaleidoscopic chrome gown by Lebanese designer Jean-Louis Sabaji, Aishwarya attended the festival premiere of A Hidden Life.
The dress had a single sleeve and a pleated train. For Aishwarya, it was a look as unexpected as could be - it seems to be a year for sartorial surprises at Cannes, after Deepika Padukone's eye-popping green and turban outfit - and while she fared as well as anyone possibly could in so difficult a dress, as many eyebrows were raised as jaws were dropped.
The former beauty queen let her show-stealing ensemble do the fashion talk, keeping it simple and elegant in the make-up corner. Contoured cheeks and nude lips is a sure hit this season and Aishwarya went with just that, styling her hair in sleek straights.
Aishwarya shared images of herself and daughter Aaradhya, who always accompanies her to Cannes and was dressed in yellow to match her, and her husband Abhishek Bachchan, for one, was impressed.
Earlier in the day, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan announced her arrival in the French Riviera with a cute Instagram post featuring herself, daughter Aaradhya and the stunning bouquet she was welcomed with. "We're here. Thank you all for your love, Cannes 2019."
This is Aishwarya's 18th consecutive visit at the Cannes Film Festival. She was first there in 2002 representing her film Devdas along with Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Post 2002, she has been attending the prestigious gala as an L'Oreal ambassador.
While Aishwarya may have arrived late at Cannes, her colleagues from the Indian entertainment industry have been making a splash at this year's festival. Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra, Diana Penty, Mallika Sherawat, Huma Qureshi and Hina Khan have already grabbed eyeballs with their red carpet appearances. Next up, will be Sonam Kapoor.
